Also known as AOSP, the Android Open Source Project is an open-source repository of the Android mobile operating system created by Google.

Google develops every version of Android privately, then provides AOSP with the source code when it’s ready to be released to the public. Individual device manufacturers can modify the source code to create a closed-source, proprietary version of Android specific to their hardware, like Fire OS, One UI, and OxygenOS. Some mobile devices, including the Google Nexus and Google Pixel, run the AOSP code unmodified, known as Stock Android.
