Originally released in 1996 by Hitachi, an IPS display (In-Panel Switching display) is an LCD that provides a wider range of colors and less fluctuation based on varied viewing angles. IPS displays have a lower refresh rate than TN and VA monitors, sacrificing the refresh rate for color quality and consistency in viewing angles. IPS displays are also more expensive than the other two types of commonly used LCD displays. IPS technology is commonly used in professional graphic design and digital media fields.
