When referring to a waveform signal, such as audio, to amplify the signal is to increase its strength. For instance, when a sound wave is amplified, the volume of the sound is increased. The act of increasing signal strength is called amplification, and the measure of that strength is called amplitude. A device that amplifies a signal is called an amplifier.

On a computer, the amplitude of a digital audio file can be modified with a DAW (digital audio workstation), such as Audacity.
