AMOLED, short for active-matrix organic light-emitting diode, is a type of display used in some flat-screen TVs, monitors, smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. Its primary component is an OLED (organic light-emitting diode), which is powered by active-matrix circuitry, such as TFTs (thin-film transistors).

AMOLED displays have several advantages over passive-matrix OLEDs, including a higher refresh rate and lower power consumption. Since 2008, they’ve been a fundamental component in many flagship mobile devices, including those created by Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Google, Apple, and OnePlus.
