Skin may refer to any of the following:
Alternatively known as skinz or a software skin, a skin enables a user to change the overall look and feel of a software program without affecting its functionality. There are several applications today that allow users to customize the skins or look of the program, including Opera, Winamp, Windows (with LiteStep), and Windows Media Player.
With gaming, a skin is a different texture applied to the surface of a game’s character or item to give it a unique appearance. For example, many FPS (first-person shooters) and live service games allow players to acquire different skins for their guns to give them a more personalized look. Skins may be designed and sold by other players, found in-game, awarded for completing a task, or found in loot boxes.
With hardware, a skin is plastic material placed on a device, like a game controller, keyboard, back of a laptop, etc., that gives it a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
