Many audio playback software applications and electronic devices feature a playlist. A playlist is a list of songs or audio files either set up by default, in the case of audio CDs, or set up by the user. Songs can be added to a playlist, then played in sequence or random order.
Many MP3 music devices, like the iPod, and smartphones and computers, include a preloaded audio application with a playlist feature. If no application is preloaded, one can usually be downloaded and installed for free or low cost. Popular audio applications for computers include iTunes, Windows Media Player, VLC, and WinAmp. MP3 music devices usually have proprietary software installed for use. Smartphones offer many apps to play back MP3s. Most, if not all, of these applications feature a playlist for users to create a list of songs to play in an order they prefer.
