In the field of graphic design, page layout refers to the placement of elements in the page and their spatial relation to one another. Each page in a magazine has its own layout, as do newspapers, electronic documents, and brochures. The elements of a page’s layout can be as simple as plain text, or more complex including varying text sizes, different colors, columns, rows, and custom graphics.

The focus of graphic designers is to create a strong, eye catching pages that capture the attention of their target audience. Page layout is especially important for advertising where the goal is to balance maximizing advertising dollars in the available space, while not overwhelming customers with too much content.
