A letter may refer to any of the following:

  1. A letter is any character that is not considered a number or symbol. For example, a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, and z are all lowercase letters in the English language and letter keys on the keyboard.   2. The Letter size (spelled with a capital L) or paper size is a standard size for paper in the United States. Its dimensions are 8.5 x 11 inches, or 215.9 x 279.4 mm, as defined by ANSI. It is similar to, but should not be mistaken for, the A4 international standard paper size.

  1. Lettering is inscribing letters onto or into something. For example, inscribing letters into wood or embroidery letters are both examples of lettering.

  2. A letter describes a message from one person to one or more other people. On a computer, a letter can be written in any text editor, but is often created in a word processor.
