A Java Champion was an elected member of the Java Champions; a program sponsored by Oracle to recognize leaders in the Java software development community. Individuals who made significant contributions to the Java programming language are elected to the group democratically by previously elected champions. Together, the members of the group make recommendations about the future directions that Java should take.
