A deep link describes a hyperlink pointing to any section of a web page that is not the homepage. For example, if someone linked to this definition instead of the Computer Hope main page, that would be considered a deep link.
Companies or individuals may prohibit others from deep linking to their web pages because they believe a user may be confused by who is providing the information. They may also be concerned that it would reduce the amount of advertising displayed to site visitors.
