Cross-browser describes a web page (or some part of its appearance or functionality) that works in all Web browsers. It is also sometimes used to mean working with a specific subset of Web browsers (such as Firefox as Internet Explorer).

The term originated during the original “browser wars” between Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Though some improvements have been made in standards compliance, there is still a need to ensure that JavaScript, CSS, and other technologies work in all browsers. There are still some differences in how different browsers support specific technologies.
