Cassandra, also known as Apache Cassandra, is an open source, distributed, NoSQL DBMS (database management system). It provides high levels of performance, scalability, and reliability for database implementations clustered in multiple data centers. Originally developed by Facebook to power their Inbox Search feature, Cassandra migrated to Apache in 2009 as an Apache Incubator project.
