Often shortened to 4K, the term 4K resolution refers to any display with about 4,000 horizontal pixels. More specifically, dimensions of either 3840 x 2160 (consumer electronics) or 4096 x 2160 (cinematic 4K) pixels. 4K displays have four times as many pixels as those that are FHD (Full High Definition or 1920 x 1080) at around eight million versus two million.
While 4K resolution used to be found only on large TVs (e.g., UHD televisions), it has made its way onto many smaller devices such as computer monitors, smartphones, and tablets.
