This message is often encountered when running the ping, tracert, or other network command cannot communicate with the host you’ve entered. The following box contains two alternative versions of this same error:

Why am I getting this error?
These errors could be due to a network problem, a server being down, lack of certain privileges, firewall settings, misspelling, a bad Modem, router or router configuration.
Is the issue with my network or theirs?
If you are trying to access an Internet host, test the web page to determine if the problem is with your network.
- How to test if a website or web page is down.
If other computers do not have an issue, or you are dealing with an internal network host, you need to diagnose the problem on your end. If you are not the administrator for this network, we suggest contacting that individual. If you are a home user, contact your ISP for additional assistance. If you are the network administrator, check your router settings, reboot the router, and run a traceroute to the host. If a traceroute cannot complete, one of the computers or routers between you and the host has problems.
