Electronic sports, or e-sports, are video game competitions that can be viewed in person or on streaming services, such as YouTube, Twitch, or even local or national television. Games for these tournaments are usually chosen based on the number of viewers they draw in and how popular they are. Nearly all e-sports tournaments include a prize pool that is divided up based on which place a person or team finishes.
On May 21, 2018, Epic Games announced it would provide $100 million for Fortnite e-sports tournament prize pools in the first year of competitive play.
