When your device is plugged in but does not have a dial tone.

The device may delay a few seconds before starting to have a dial tone. Just wait five seconds and if there is still no dial tone, try other solutions below.

A common issue users have when they do not hear a dial tone is that all the wires of the device are not actually plugged in. Fasten the phone cable into both the wall and the phone base. If the issue is still not resolved, then consider trying to connect a different, functional, telephone into the same cables. If there is still no dial tone, the issue most likely is the wiring or your telephone service. In both cases, call your telephone service provider.

Move the handset closer to the base.

Contact your telephone service provider. Problems arise from having changed service providers or old wiring needing to be redone.

If the device was changed to digital service, then you would need to contact the cable company or the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) provider.

The charging base motherboard needs to be replaced

See the base motherboard replacement guide.

When your handset refuses to charge or simply will not hold one.

The handset might not be properly placed unto the base. Double-check that the CHARGE light is on. If it is not on then pick up the handset and place it back unto the base properly. The CHARGE light should now be on.

Charge the handset on the base for half an hour, at the minimum, before the next usage.

The charging contact points for the base/handset needs cleaning. Clean the charging contact areas on the handset, the base, and the charger, each month with a non-abrasive fabric or a pencil eraser (or any other type of rubber).

If all else fails, purchase a new battery. Make sure it is the correct battery for the correct model of the device. The VTech website, as well as the iFixit website, should have purchase information.

The compatible battery is the BT183342/BT283342 battery pack.

See the battery replacement guide.

When you know someone is calling but you cannot hear the ring of the handset.

Shake the handset gently. If there is a small sound coming from inside then replace the speaker.

See the speaker replacement guide.

The volume needs to be raised.

Click the volume up button. It is the upper-right most button located on the front of the handset.

There may be too many other phones connected to the same telephone line. Unplug the ones that are not in use.

If other telephones in the house are having the same issue, the problem lies with weather the wiring or the telephone service. In both cases, you need to contact the telephone service provider.

Radio interference from other devices may cause problems for this cordless device. Keep away from other electronic products that may cause such interference such as HAM radios and other DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) phones.

When the device will not connect calls as it should.

If there is no dial tone, then try the solutions in the ‘‘No dial tone’‘ section of this page. The device may also delay a few seconds before starting to have a dial tone.

Mute the handset before dialing out. Alternatively, try connecting the device in a different, more quiet, room.

Pressing the keys does nothing. There is no response.

This problem can arise because of improper contact between the motherboard and the keypad. Either the contact points on the motherboard need to be cleaned, the keypad needs to be replaced, or the motherboard needs to be replaced.

When a particular key is giving trouble, the problem may lie with there being gunk that interferes with the keypad contact points on the motherboard.

Using alcohol and a cotton swab, wipe each circular keypad contact point, especially the corresponding point for whichever key is giving the most trouble.

Try wiping the contact points on the keypad itself as well.

If doing these actions do not work, try replacing motherboard or try to replace the screen

See the keypad replacement guide.

See the handset motherboard replacement guide.

The keys may be worn to the point where the contact points do not make proper contact to the motherboard. Try replacing the keypad.

Try replacing the motherboard.

The screen is cracked/broken or just not responding.

Replace the entire motherboard.
