Step 1

              Loosen Peg               
  • Twist the top peg to loosen the violin string.
  • Twist peg slowly clockwise to loosen string

              Unhook String               
  • Unhook the bottom end of the string from the fine tuners on the tailpiece.

              Remove peg               
  • Slowly untwist the peg in clockwise direction to remove the peg from the violin.

              Sharpen peg               
  • Clean peg or grab a new peg.
  • Use sharpener to size peg to the hole
  • Be cautious when using the sharpener.

              Remove string               
  • Carefully remove string from violin

              Test size of peg               
  • Twist peg back into hole to test size.
  • If too much resistance, then remove peg and resize with sharpener again.

              Re-string peg               
  • Once peg is in place re-attach string to peg hole.
  • Slowly rotate peg to have a better angle if trouble reattaching string occurs.

              Re-hook string               
  • Re-hook bottom of string to fine tuners.

              Tighten string               
  • Once the peg is inserted, you may begin to twist the peg in the counterclockwise direction while in the hole and tighten the string.

              Retune violin               
  • Turn peg clockwise to create a higher pitch and counterclockwise to lower pitch.
  • Using a tuning app if you are unsure if you are too high or low on the specific note.

Be sure to tune all strings after replacing or resizing pegs.
