The screen is non-responsive the rest of the laptop may be functioning. Indicator lights on the keyboard or power button may be lit, but the screen isn’t on.
If the laptop is not plugged into a power source, the screen may not turn on. Make sure a power source is plugged into an outlet, as well as the correct port in the laptop. If the laptop powers on but the screen is not responsive, proceed to the following guides.
If the battery is not plugged into laptop, the laptop may not power up. Locate the battery on the bottom of the laptop. There is a lock switch, as well as a release switch. Ensure the release switch is secure, and that the lock switch is locked. If the laptop powers on but the screen is not responsive, proceed to the following guides.
Screen brightness can be adjusted with the Fn, F6, and F7 keys. Try adjusting the brightness up by holding Fn and pressing F7. If the screen brightness does not increase. Proceed to the following guide.
If the laptop powers on, but the screen remains black, you may have a faulty screen. Click here for our guide on screen replacement.
Laptop has trouble or doesn’t run programs.
If programs on the laptop are running slow, try having less programs open. Try having one program running at a time to increase speed output for said program.
If programs will not load try deleting unused programs. This will free up space for other programs to load.
If the laptop becomes unresponsive, meaning the programs refuse to run, replace the laptop’s RAM. Click here for a guide on replacing RAM.
Keys on the keyboard are not responding, or the entire keyboard is not responding.
When keys are not responding, there may be debris build-up that is preventing the key function. First, try dislodging the debris with a can of compressed air, or by shaking the laptop upside down to free the keyboard of any loose particles. If the keys are still sticking, try removing the affected keys and wiping off the area underneath. Snap the key back into position after cleaning the area.

Laptop makes a continuous noise during use.
If the laptop is heating up with consistent use, the vents need cleaning. Laptop vents are often found above the keyboard on the monitor, on the sides or back of the laptop, or on the bottom of the laptop. Take a dry cloth and wipe out any dust found in the vents.
If the laptop is making a very loud rattling noise throughout use, then the cooling fans need cleaning. Click for a guide on cleaning the cooling fans.
Laptop is excessively hot and will not cool down during use.
If the laptop is making a very loud noise or heating up quickly with use, then clean the vents and/or cooling fans. Look into the “Loud Noise” guide below for more information.
The laptop is overheating quickly, or an error message appears with use, then replace the motherboard. Click for a guide on replacing the motherboard.
