Pressing the power button does not turn on the laptop.

If the charger is malfunctioning, the laptop will not receive any power and will be unable to turn on. You can figure out if this is the issue by borrowing someone else’s charger and seeing if it works with your laptop. To fix this, purchase a new charger.

If the laptop only turns on when when battery is removed from laptop and plugged in, the issue could lie with a faulty battery. This can be fixed by replacing the battery following this guide.

Sometimes a residual charge can prevent the laptop from turning on, you can fix this by draining the computer. This is done by removing the charger and holding the power button for 15 seconds. If residual charge was the problem, then plugging in the charger will allow the laptop to power on.

Playing audio on the laptop results in unexpected audio distortion.

If the audio is only distorted when listening with headphones, the headphone jack is probably not fully inserted. This can be remedied by making sure the jack is thoroughly inserted to the point where it does not move around.

If audio is only distorted when played through headphones and the jack is fully inserted, the headphones themselves could be at fault. Test the headphones with another device to make sure this is the case and if it is, you will need a new pair of headphones.

If the problem does not lie with the headphones or headphone jack, the laptop’s hard drive could be causing audio distortion, as a faulty hard drive can cause many miscellaneous problems. The hard drive can be replaced following this guide.

Pressing keys on the keyboard either produces the wrong output or no output at all.

If pressing keys produces incorrect output or causes them to stick in position, there may be unwanted refuse under the keys and the area under the keys must be cleaned.

If there appears to be no problem with the keys, you may need to get updated drivers from Toshiba’s website.

If there is no refuse under the keys and drivers are updated, the keyboard itself could be faulty. Refer to this guide to replace the laptop’s keyboard.

Using the laptop for a short amount of time results in overheating.

If your laptop’s vent is blocked by an object, it will not be able to expel air and it will overheat, drastically decreasing its performance. Make sure the laptop is in a position that gives it plenty of space.

If the laptop overheats after running for a short time, there could be a buildup of dust in the fan blocking the air flow. This can be remedied by removing the back panels of the laptop and spraying the fan with short bursts of air from a compressed air can at different angles.

A malfunctioning fan will not be able to properly cool the laptop and must be replaced. To replace a faulty fan, refer to this guide.

Trying to play CDs or DVDs results in errors or nothing happening.

If the disc has any scratches or cracks when viewed under a light, it must be replaced with a new disc.

If there’s not a problem with the disc, the computer could require updated drivers to read it. You can acquire the latest drivers from Toshiba’s website.

If the disc has no problems and drivers are up-to-date, the disc drive itself could be damaged and it can be replaced by following this guide.
