Computer won’t turn on

If the battery does not keep a charge or the device dies soon after unplugging the device. Reset the computer’s internal battery sensor, to allow time for the battery to be completely drained of charge. Once there is no charge left in the battery, fully charge the computer to 100% by leaving it plugged in for at least 12 hours. Make sure the is computer off while the battery is charging. If this does not resolve the problem, then the issue may be a faulty battery and will need to be replaced. Toshiba Satellite C55-A5140 Battery Replacement

Check that the power cord used with the device is the cord that came with the device. If not using the default power cord. Check the writing on the power brick to ensure that the stated voltage and amperage match the requirements written on the bottom of the device. If the AC adapter is damaged, frayed or severed, commonly found near ends. You may need to replace the AC adapter or cord to restore power.

If the computer is getting hot, still not turning on, or failing to go to start menu, then the battery may be overheated. Toshiba has issued a recall on their batteries in the past and some of the C55 may be affected by this recall. Computer runs but, sound from speakers or headphones is distorted or is not working.

Check first if the sound on your computer is turned off. If your sound is not turned off and still have issues, then it could be your headphones. Try a different pair of headphones into the device. If the different pair of headphones also provide no sound, then try them in a different device. If either of your headphones work in a different device then go to the Audio port is broken/not working section.

Audio port may have faulty circuits and needs to be replaced. Functional but, low quality sound. Other factors such as spilled liquid or foreign materials may be lodged into the port. When typing or logging on, some keys or keyboard doesn’t function.

Keys on keyboard may not respond because they are jammed. If the keys do not appear to be jammed, then there may have been damage to the receptors located under the keys. If this is the case, the individual keys will need to be replaced. If the receptors are intact then the problem may be with the circuits of the keyboard, and may need keyboard replacement . In the case of missing keys on the keyboard check if the key receptor is missing before replacing the key. If that is the only thing missing replace the key and put the key back in its original position. If both the key and the receptor are missing replace both. If your keyboard is not responding, the keyboard may have faulty links in the circuits or receptors. The replacement guide for the receptors can be found in the link below[invalid guide link]. If the receptors are not damaged, the keyboard may have come into contact with a liquid causing the keyboard circuit to short out. In this case, the keyboard will need to be replaced . CD drive is unresponsive and will not open

Check for blockages around driver. Carefully clear area. The driver may also be bent and needs to be removed carefully and realigned (Guide below on how to remove the driver). Parts of the driver may be broken and need to be replaced. Toshiba Satellite C55-A5140 CD Drive Replacement

If the driver is moving fine but, still isn’t reading the disk the laser may be faulty. The laser can be replaced with a newer one. In the case the laser is to badly damaged and cannot be easily accessed replace the driver completely. Toshiba Satellite C55-A5140 CD Drive Replacement

Computer will power on normally but, when it goes to the start page problems occur.

If the start page on your screen is not present then there may be a virus on your computer. If your start page won’t let you type in login information then you may have to many many files (or cookies) on your computer and need to be removed. If start page loads properly but, when you enter into the loading screen make zero to little progress then there may be a virus. If start page load properly but, during loading process stops, then some files may be missing and need to be installed. If start up page has issues with the loading screen, then there may be issues with the RAM (Random Access Memory).

If the computer runs normally but, provides an abnormal amount of heat when on the start page there might be issues with your RAM (Random Access Memory).
