“The device fails to power on or becomes completely unresponsive to user-input.“

If it has been a while since the user has last used the device, it may be beneficial to plug the device into a power source using the charging adapter. This will ensure that the computer was not simply out of power. During this process, ensure that the charging light is illuminated. If it is not illuminated, the power adapter may need to be replaced.

In the event the device still won’t power on or has become unresponsive, try performing a soft power cycle executing the following steps:

  • Hold down the power button for 20 seconds, or until the device powers off.Press the power button to restart the computer.

Depending on the age of the users device, it may be time to replace the battery. Over time, as batteries age, they become less and less efficient, and eventually, stop working. If this is the case with your device, you may try replacing the battery using the following [http://placeholder|guide.]

“The device is unresponsive to keyboard strokes.”

It is possible that the keys are physically stuck because of crumbs and debris being trapped under the keys over time. This is especially so if the user does not regular clean their keyboard. This can be solved easily by turning device over and shaking out crumbs. Another option is to used compressed air to clean the keyboard.

If the user has been postponing updates for a long period of time, the keyboard driver require an update. Updating computers is important as new technology is released and later editions become obscure. This can be solved by performing the following steps:

  • Open the start menuGo to “Device Manager”Click on “Keyboard”Click on “Update Driver”

If the keyboard is not dirty, and is fully updated and still unresponsive it is possible that the device may need a new keyboard. Older devices may have parts break down over time such as the keyboard. If this is the case with your device, you may refer the following guide

“This device may have a blank screen for many reasons.”

In order to determine whether a replacement screen is needed, perform the following steps:

Replace the battery it should turn on.

In case these steps didn’t work, one will have to replace the screen using the following [http://guide|guide.]

“The computer shuts down unexpectedly due to the processor’s temperature reaching an unacceptably high level.”

Computers tend to overheat due to dust and lint clogging the fan. If this is the case, you will need to unplug and turn off your laptop. Then, you will need to remove the bottom panel of your laptop and disconnect the fan cables on the system board to remove the fan.  You will then need to clean the fan with compressed air to get rid of the dust.

If the fan becomes too noisy or makes a grinding sound, it can be a sign that the fan is defective and must be replaced. Try replacing the fan with this [guide].

“The device fails to power at all, even after checking the battery and other systems. The computer is as good as a brick.”

Sometimes, if a computer is exposed to electrical shocks, physical damage, or excessive heat, the motherboard of the device can cease to work properly. The motherboard is responsible for managing the other computer components and regulating activity within the computer. Please refer to the following [http://guide|guide] to see how to replace this component.
