The computer is really slow and glitches when moving the mouse.
System needs a reboot
A system reboot may be needed. To reboot your laptop you will need to Shut down and restart your Toshiba laptop by pressing the power button. Immediately and repeatedly press the F12 key on your keyboard until the Boot Menu screen appears. Using your laptop’s arrow keys, select “HDD Recovery” and press enter. From here, you will be asked if you want to proceed with the recovery.
Defragmenting hard drive
To defragment your hard drive go to the start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools, diskdefragmentering, and click on defragment disk. This will take a while so make sure the laptop is fully charged.
The laptop battery is not charged even when it is plugged in.
- Faulty power cable
If a battery is not charging it could be a result of a faulty power cable which is not transmitting power due to the lack of connection. The best option would be to replace the cable itself because it is fairly cost effective.
- Fans overheating
Most battery packs come with a sensor which will tell you how much juice is within the actual battery itself, which can sometimes malfunction when a computer is overheating too much. The solution to an overheating computer would be to check and see that the fan is operating at max efficiency. Open up the air vent and check to see that no debris is making the fan not spin properly.
The laptop is buzzing and making noise when it’s turned on.
- Clogged fan
The fan may have caught some debris that is making the noise. Blowing it out with an air can or taking the cover off and cleaning it would solve the issue.
- Broken fan
Broken fin on the fan causes it to be imbalanced. Power down the laptop, flip it over and remove the battery. Look for an air vent on one of the sides. Unscrew the vent cover and replace the fan.
- Laptop won’t turn on
The laptop does not respond when the power button is pressed.
- Faulty Power Adapter
Ensure power adapter is fully connected to the laptop and the wall. If plugged in correctly and there is no response, the charger may be faulty. You may need to purchase a new power adapter.
- Faulty Battery
The battery could albrokes broke itself. If the laptop does not turn on regardless of charge, you may need to replace it.
The sound coming out of the speakers is not clear.
- Dirty Speakers
There may be dirt and other debris in the speaker. Use our repair guide to learn how to replace or take apart the speaker.
Keys getting stuck when you press them, or not responding when pressed.
- Dirty Keyboard
This mainly occurs when dirt and debris get stuck under and between the keys.Also oils from your fingers will mix with the dirt and cause the keys to stick. Use a can of compressed air to clean the dirt out.
Touchpad is unresponsive when being used.
- Touchpad is disabled
Try pressing the ‘Fn’ Key button if your laptop has that feature to enable or disable the touchpad. This usually happens when accidentally pressing buttons and switching the settings.
- Restart Computer
The computer touchpad may be frozen; therefore, you may need to restart the computer to unfreeze certain functions.
- Check Mouse Pad setting
Using an external (usb) mouse, try going through the mouse settings and ensuring the touchpad is enabled. In the search bar on the bottom left type in mouse settings. This will bring you to a page where you can make sure the touchpad is enabled.
Fan is getting too hot when laptop is being used.
- Dirty Fan
On the bottom side of the laptop, you will find air vents that guard the fan. Using a can of compressed air, spray the fan to try to clean out any dirt buildup.
- Hot area
If you are using your laptop outside, the sun may be causing the laptop to get hotter than normal, try moving to a cooler place indoors. Having your laptop on things such as a blanket could also overheat it, try keeping staying on a desk or other non-insulative surface.
