While you are working, your computer randomly shuts off without notification. Or the fan runs loudly and bottom of laptop begins to feel hot.

Start by saving and closing all open tasks/windows. Then hold down the power button till the computer shuts down. Unplug computer charger from laptop. Close laptop. Carefully flip the laptop upside down. Then remove the battery see our guide here. Leave the laptop upside down, unplugged without battery for a few hours till the computer is cool to the touch. Then reinsert the battery, flip back over, and plug in the laptop. Wait for a charge and then proceed to use the computer.

Turn off computer and flip upside down. Remove the back plate; see our guide for that here. Then using compressed air (available at any electronics store) blow from the inside out on all air vents. Remove the fan using our guide here. Then blow compressed air through the fan away from the inside of the computer.

The fan will need to be replaced. Buy a replacement fan, CODE: GDM610000456. Turn off computer and flip upside down. Replace fan using our guide here.

The laptop will not respond or show any sign of powering up.

Before turning on the computer, make sure any external devices, like the AC adaptor, are properly connected and ready to use. Make sure that all drives and slots are empty. To turn on the computer, press and release the power button. You will know that the computer is on when the ON/OFF light glows green.

Mouse on screen will not move when finger is slid across trackpad

Enable the touchpad by pressing the ON/OFF Touchpad button, if it’s available on the model you own. If the previous method is not applicable to your model, press Fn and F9 keys to enable and disable touchpad.

First, turn off your laptop before cleaning. To clean the touchpad, gently wipe with a lightly dampened cloth. Be sure to handle the laptop carefully so that you do not scratch or damage the surface. Keep liquids, including cleaning fluid, out of the computer’s keyboard, speaker, and other openings. Never spray cleaner directly onto the computer and/or display. Never use harsh or caustic chemical products to clean the computer.

There is no internet connection, or the laptop is not connecting to the internet.

Turn on Wi-Fi. Ensure that your Wi-Fi is turned on and connected by clicking on the notification panel in the bottom right corner and clicking on network.

If none of the other solutions work, it could be that your Wi-Fi card is out of date. Replace it using this guide.

Computer battery life is very short or the computer must be plugged in to turn on.

Try closing all windows and applications you are not currently using. To turn on power-saving settings, click the icon of the battery on the taskbar, likely in the bottom right corner. Then adjust the slider to “best battery life.”

If no other solutions seem to work, try replacing the battery using this guide.

CD/DVD drive is not responsive or DVD will not play on device

First, remove the DVD that is currently in the disc drive. Then, place a different DVD in the reader and attempt to play. If it works, the first DVD is scratched or dirty. Dampen a soft cotton cloth with alcohol and wipe down the DVD. Wipe in a straight line from the center outward. If the second DVD does not work, try cleaning the disc reader. Use compressed air to blow away any loose dust. Then, dampen a cloth with alcohol and wipe the inside of the drive.

If cleaning the DVD and the drive did not yield a solution, try replacing the DVD drive using this guide.
