Your laptop will not respond to pressing the power button and shows no sign of turning on.

The first step is to make sure you have a charged battery. If your computer does not turn on, plug it into the wall and wait 10 minutes for it to begin charging. Then press the power button to turn it on. Leave the power cable plugged in until the battery is fully charged.

Make sure that your power cable is fully pressed into the laptop and the power cable is fully plugged into an outlet.

If both are securely fastened and the charge light is still not on, the power cable might be faulty. Consider borrowing a cable from a friend and if that one works, consider purchasing a new power cable.

If both are securely fastened and the laptop only powers up when the laptop is plugged in the battery is defective.

You try to save a file to your computer and there is not enough space.

Emptying the Trash can clear up a lot of space quickly. Right-Click on the icon labeled Trash or Recycle Bin on the home screen of your computer. Click the option labeled Empty Trash or Empty Recycle Bin, then click Yes.

Go to the My Computer section by either clicking on the home button the clicking the ‘My Computer’ tab, or by clicking the My Computer icon. Then click on the Downloads tab and sift through the downloads and right click delete any that you do not need. Make sure to delete them from your trash bin afterwards!

If cleaning up space doesn’t make enough room for your files, it may be time for you to upgrade to a higher capacity hard drive. See our guide on how to replace your hard drive.

My laptop does not play sound or the sound is distorted.

It may sound simple, but make sure that the sound is turned up loud enough for you to hear.

Make sure you do not have external speakers connected to your laptop.

Try another application. Sometimes, the issue is local to one application. Try playing music in another application and see if you can replicate the issue.

If all other methods of correcting the issue have failed, then it could be hardware related. Check out our guide on how to replace the internal speaker.

I am unable to access my local area network or the Internet.

Check that the wifi adapter is not disabled.

Make sure that the router is available to be connected to. If you are required to enter a password to access the network, ensure that the correct password has been entered.

This is the most common case that screen becomes to be black. If the battery has lost its charge the computer may not turn on. Reconnect the power cable and try again.

When the monitor is in sleep mode, the screen turns black to conserve power. Either move the mouse or hit a key to reactivate the screen. Sometimes you might need to press the power button to wake up the computer.

I am typing on the keyboard and either nothing happens, or unexpected things happen.

If a single or multiple keys do not respond, try to clean the keyboards by using cotton swabs carefully.

If most of keys are not working, please replace the entire keyboard. See our guide on how to replace the Toshiba NB305 keyboard.

I am moving my finger to control the mouse and nothing happens, or unexpected things happen.

Check if the surface of the trackpad is clean. In order to check that, turn off the computer first and wipe the trackpad by using a soft towel or cloth.

If cleaning the trackpad does not solve the issue, the hardware could be faulty. Replacing the trackpad with a new one could be the solution.
