Pressing the power button does not turn on the Encore Mini.

Press the power button quickly to wake up the device. If a short/quick press does not wake up the device, try using a “long press” (several seconds) on the power button. The long press turns the power to the device on or off. If the device does not power on, check to make sure the battery is charged.

If the device has power but no display, the display is broken and may need to be replaced. Follow our screen replacement guide to replace the display (screen).

The tablet has a blank white screen and will not turn off.

First try holding down the power button (located on the right hand side of the device) for 10 seconds. This will completely shut off the device. Then try turning on the device again. If it continues to have a blank screen, it may need a factory reset. (Caution: This will erase all memory on the device.) To perform a factory reset, hold down the power button and the volume up button (located at the top of the device) simultaneously for 10 seconds. This should reset the device to factory settings. After completing the factory reset steps, try turning on the device. If the device remains unresponsive, refer to the Toshiba Manual.

Plug the device into the appropriate charger, then try turning on the device. If the device does not power on, you may need to allow sufficient time for the battery to charge or the battery may need to be replaced. To replace the battery, follow the battery replacement guide.

If the screen is damaged or remains blank after other troubleshooting steps, the device may need a new display screen. Follow our screen replacement guide to replace the screen.

The tablet doesn’t charge, charges extremely slowly, or loses charge when it is plugged in.

Try turning off the device by holding down the power button until the device shuts down (several seconds). After the Encore Mini is powered off, plug it into a computer USB port. If the device still isn’t charging, check additional troubleshooting topics for possible causes and solutions.

Some computer or laptop USB ports do not generate enough power to charge the Toshiba Encore Mini. Try a computer or laptop with a USB 3.0. The faster data speed for this type of port may allow more efficient charging. It may also be helpful to try using a different cord. If the device still won’t charge, you may need to use an AC adapter (for use with a wall outlet). If the device is not charging while using an AC adapter, you may need a more powerful AC adapter. When purchasing an AC adapter, look for one that is at least 5 volts (5v) and between 2-3 Amps (2A-3A).

If you have tried other troubleshooting solutions without success, try removing the battery, waiting five minutes, and replacing it. Then, charge the device for a couple of hours. If these steps do not result in a charged battery, the battery may need to be replaced. Follow our handy guide on how to change the battery.

If different USB cords, chargers, and batteries have all been used in an attempt to charge the device without success, the USB port may be unresponsive. If the device has battery power, connect the device to a computer using a USB cord. If the computer does not recognize the device is connected, the USB port may need to be replaced. If the USB port is defective, the motherboard needs to be replaced.

The tablet produces distorted sound or no sound through the speakers and/or headphones.

Verify the headphones transmit sound by plugging them into another device. Ensure the audio jack is clean and the headphones are plugged in completely. If no sound is produced, the audio jack is defective and the motherboard needs to be replaced.

Check the audio setting to ensure the device is not muted. If the audio setting is not muted, try increasing the volume to the highest setting. If speakers still do not produce sound, reduce the volume and plug in the headphones. Then, check the headphones for sound, gradually increasing volume as needed. If sound works with headphones only, the speaker may need to be replaced.

If the sound from the speaker is distorted, inspect the speaker to make sure nothing is covering it. If the speaker is unobstructed and the sound is still distorted, the speaker may need to be replaced.

The tablet does not capture an image with the camera.

Check to ensure the front-facing camera is selected. If the front-facing camera is on and the image is either distorted or missing, the front-facing camera may need to be replaced. Check out our camera replacement guide to replace this component.

Check to ensure the rear-facing camera is selected. If the rear-facing camera is on and the image is either distorted or missing, the rear-facing camera may need to be replaced.
