When computer is turned on, it randomly crashes.

Software errors can be caused by viruses. The best way to fix this problem is to try and remove all viruses and spyware. Do not download any suggested spyware, this can cause your computer to get more viruses. Another reason you software could be malfunctioning is due to unapproved updates. To fix this problem, back up your computer and then restart in safe mode. Continue by undoing the last installation and update. If this doesn’t work, reinstall Windows or what ever software your computer has.

Hard drive crashing can be caused by outside elements such as overheating, water damage, or electrical shock.

When computer is turned on, the screen does not exhibit normal colors and flickers.

Sometimes screen discoloration can be caused by the computer overheating. If you think this is the case, turn computer off and allow computer to cool down.

Sometimes the computer just needs to be updated. To check for this issue, go to task manager and see if the screen flickers there. If it does so, the app may need to updated or the display driver replaced. If it does not flicker when task manager is open, the issue is most likely with an app.

If the display driver is malfunctioning, the easiest solution is to delete the display driver and download the latest version of it.

When the keyboard is being used, keys are unresponsive

In many cases the keyboard itself just needs to be rebooted. To check for this problem, click the ‘caps lock’ button and see if the light turns on. If it does not turn on, restart the computer and try again.

A common cause for keys to be unresponsive is if the keyboard itself is dirty or dusty. Use a laptop cleaning kit or a dry toothbrush to gently clean around the individual keys and keyboard. Try using the keys again.

If there are only a few keys on the keyboard that are unresponsive, you can replace them individually. A key needs to be replaced if it is physically damaged (cracked, water damaged, etc.). Replace keys using this guide.

If the keyboard itself is unresponsive, you may need to replace the whole thing. In order to resolve this problem, you need to purchase the keyboard your computer requires online. Replace the keyboard using this guide.

After computer has been in use for a while, the fan does not turn on causing the device to overheat.

The fan may be dusty, causing it to either slow down or stop altogether. An easy solution for this problem is to blow compressed air into the cooling vents on the sides of the laptop. You can either use a can of condensed air or a hairdryer set to ‘cool’ and blow it into the vents.

If the fan doesn’t turn, there may be an issue with the fan itself. To fix this problem, replace the fan using this guide.

When the computer is unplugged from the charger, the power depletes very quickly.

If the battery is losing charge quickly, it may be because the battery is dusty. To fix this problem, you take out the battery and wipe down the battery with a cloth with a little rubbing alcohol. Then put the battery back and try again.

If the battery will not hold charge, there may be an issue with the battery’s function. The easiest solution to this problem is to replace the battery by taking the old battery out and replacing it with a new battery. You will need to purcahse a new battery for your computer. A link detailing how to find a new battery is located in the Additional Information section on the Toshiba Dynabook TT552-58G wiki.
