Introduction

The spindle attaches the tub to the yoke and allows the tub to spin freely.

Warning: The tub and dish are both extremely heavy and require at least two people to lift them. Be sure to practice safe lifting techniques.

What you need

  • Before you begin, press the engine-stop switch to turn off the engine.

  • Unlatch the three rubber straps securing the cowl.

  • Swing the cowl up until it rests securely on the frame.

  • Slide the fuel cutoff lever to the left to cut the fuel supply to the engine.

  • Grab the plastic housing at the end of the spark plug wire.
  • Pull firmly to disconnect the wire from the spark plug.

              Remove the tub               
  • Pull up on the brake lever to disengage the brake.

  • Rotate the tub until the yoke and dish assembly sit directly below the tub.

  • Push down on the brake lever to re-engage the brake.

  • Use a 3/4 inch socket to remove the six nuts securing the tub to the dish.

  • Remove the six drum clamp plates from the tub mounting points.

  • Lift the tub up slightly by the gear ring to loosen the tub from the dish.

              Remove the dish               
  • Use a large crescent wrench to remove the bolt securing the dish to the bottom of the yoke.

  • Use a 3/4 inch socket to remove the lock bolt from the yoke.

  • Lift the dish straight up and remove it from the yoke.
  • A convenient place to set the dish is on top of the removed tub.

              Reassembly tip               
  • During reassembly, be sure to align the shaft indent with the lock bolt hole as you set the dish in place. Otherwise, you will not be able to properly lock the shaft and tighten the dish bolt.

              Remove the spindle               
  • Use a pipe wrench or an extra-large crescent wrench to loosen the dish plug.
  • Remove the dish plug.

  • The spindle and bearings are very greasy. Handle these components carefully to avoid getting grease everywhere.
  • Push the spindle from the bottom of the dish.

  • Pull the spindle from the top of the dish and remove it.
  • After you reassemble the device, make sure to follow manufacturer instructions on how to properly lubricate the device with a grease gun.
