Step 1

              Battery               
  • There are two two locks for the battery, one on the left and one on the right.
  • Slide the left lock to the left.

  • Slide and hold the right battery lock to the right.
  • While holding the right battery lock, slide the battery up to remove it from the laptop.

              ThinkPad Edge E31 Underside Disassembly               
  • The battery should be removed before accessing any internal components, and you should ground yourself before handling internal components.
  • Unscrew the 5 screws holding the back on. These screws will unscrew from the laptop, but will remain secured to the back plate even when fully loosened. Once unscrewed, the plate can be removed.

Step 4

              Hard Drive               
  • Remember to ground yourself before handing internal components of a laptop.
  • The hard drive is on the bottom left side of the exposed laptop.
  • Remove the 3.5mm long M3 screw securing the hard drive to the laptop.

Step 5

  • On the left edge of the hard drive there is a plastic tab. Pull up slightly on this tab.
  • Pull the tab to the left to remove the hard drive from the laptop.

Step 6

  • To remove the hard drive mounting bracket, locate the screws holding it on. There is one, 4mm long M2 screw on each of each on the long edges of the drive, and remove them. This will free the drive from the bracket. The bracket is needed to put the new drive back into the computer.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
