Introduction

This guide assumes you have already removed the strings from the guitar. If you have not, follow Steps 1 and 2 from this guide for instructions.

              Tuning Keys               
  • Remove the four outer screws.
  • Then remove the four inner screws.
  • The screws are located on the back of the guitar head.

Step 2

  • Slide all of the collars off of the old tuning keys.
  • The collars are found on the tuning key pegs on the front head of the guitar. One of the collars is indicated in the first picture.
  • Some of the collars may be difficult to remove. Apply gentle pressure until they pop off.

Step 3

  • Remove the old tuning keys by sliding them out of the holes.
  • It helps to put the guitar on its side and hold the head of the guitar from the front and push the old tuning keys out the back.

Step 4

  • Clean the guitar head and tuning key holes using a microfiber cloth to ensure that the new tuning keys will fit properly.
  • This step may require more or less effort depending on how much epoxy was used to hold the old tuning keys in place.

Step 5

  • Insert one of the new tuning key racks into the appropriate tuning key holes.
  • Both of the new tuning key pieces are identical, so either plate can be used.
  • The plate should have an overall length of 102 mm. The center to center distance between posts should be 35 mm.

  • Insert the second tuning key rack into the appropriate tuning key holes.

Step 7

  • Begin installing the four outer screws.
  • Then install the four inner screws.
  • The dimensions of the screws that come with the kit are 31 mm x 35 mm x 27 mm.
  • Do not tighten the screws until all of them are in place. Once all eight screws are in, go back and tighten each one. This is done so that the new tuning keys can be properly aligned.

  • The tuning keys are now properly installed.
