The Sony Xperia Z1s does not respond to a touch on its screen.
A screen protector can affect touchscreen performance. If you have a screen protector on your device, make sure that it is properly fitted. Verify that there are no air bubbles, dust, or moisture under the screen protector.
Apps running in the background could be affecting touchscreen performance. Restarting your device will turn off all running apps, which may solve the issue.
To restart your device:
- Press and hold the power and volume up buttons until the device vibrates.Release the buttons. The device will restart.
Software errors may cause touchscreen issues. To check if software updates are available, navigate to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > System Updates.
A broken screen could make your device unresponsive. You can replace the screen using this guide.
The Sony Xperia Z1s’ battery loses its charge much faster than normal.
Overcharging the phone can cause the battery to drain more quickly. Consider allowing the device to fully drain or come close to a low battery before charging the device. For example, try not to leave the phone charging throughout the night to decrease overcharging.
The phone’s lighting settings can be set too high when it comes to brightness, which can lead to draining the battery quickly. Consider reducing the brightness setting to save battery life. To do so, swipe down from the top of the screen to access the toolbar. Click on Settings > Display > Brightness and then adjust the brightness level by sliding the bar to the left.
Leaving too many apps open and running in the background can also cause the battery to drain more rapidly. To prevent this from reducing battery life, press the square shaped button on the bottom right corner of the screen. To close all of the open apps, click on the orange button with three white lines.
If the phone is losing battery life quickly, the phone may have been manufactured with a faulty battery or has lost its charging potential overtime. A solution for these issues can be to replace the battery by using this guide.
The Sony Xperia Z1s exceeds normal operating temperature.
Sometimes a message may occur that states, “Camera is temporarily unavailable due to high temperature.” This results in the camera being unavailable until the device has cooled down. Overusing the camera for long periods of time can cause overheating issues. Consider taking breaks while using the camera or avoid taking long videos. If a case is on the device, remove it to quicken the cooling process.
Using apps over a long period of time may result in overheating. This could include gaming and streaming videos. To test if your third party apps are causing overheating, consider testing the effects they have on your phone by entering safe mode. Here’s how:
Putting your device into safe mode:
- Press and hold power button.Tap restart. As device is restarting, simultaneously press the power button and volume down button. When the device logo appears, continue holding the volume down button, but release the power button. If you see “safe mode” in the bottom left corner of the device, you have successfully turned on safe mode. If you do not see “safe mode”, retry these steps.
If you have tried limiting camera and app usage, your next step is to check to make sure you are running the latest software. To check the phone’s software go to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates. If there is an available download, tap “Download” to download it to your device and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
The Sony Xperia Z1s will not perform a software update.
To best prepare the phone before an update, the device should be at least 50% charged. The device should also be reset to factory settings before updating. This will erase all of your data so you will need to make a backup file before you reset the device. (NOTE: You can attempt to update without resetting the device. However, if you are having issues with updating the software normally, performing a factory reset may resolve it .)
- To backup the device, navigate to Settings > Accounts and backup > Backup to Google Drive. Ensure the data backup is saved, then you may navigate to Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset > Reset device.Reboot the device. Then, you can update the phone using one of the four methods below.
This is the more common and simplest method to update. This method does not require the use of a computer. Navigate to Settings > System or About Phone > System Update > Update
This option is usually done when you cannot find an update over the air. First you need to download the latest software installation file onto your Computer. You can find the latest update on Sony’s official website. You then need to transfer the zip file from the computer to your phone. Then follow these steps:
- Go to settings.Go to system update section.Press the 3-dots button and then the “select firmware file.”Select the folder containing the zip file.Confirm the installation of the update.
After restarting the device it will be updated.
For this method you will need to download the latest software installation file from Sony’s website just like the last method. To install the update, follow these steps:
- Go to Recovery Mode by turning off your smartphone and holding down both the power button and the volume up button for a few seconds. If nothing happens, change the combination to the power button and the volume down button. The recovery menu will appear on the screen. Use the volume buttons to navigate and power buttons to confirm actions. For an over-the-air update select “reboot system now.” You can also select “apply update from ADB” or “apply update from SD card” depending on where the update file is saved.
If you encountered issues updating your phone from the device itself you may need to use a PC. Download and install the SONY Xperia Companion from the SONY website (https://www.sony.com/electronics/support…) onto your PC. This software will allow you to update or perform a software repair.
To update the device from the phone itself navigate to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > System Updates. There should be an available download if it is not already on the latest software version. If you are already on the latest version or you encounter issues, please refer to the next step.
The Sony Xperia Z1s’ camera does not function as intended.
Sometimes, 3rd party applications can corrupt the camera app data and cause the “Error! Camera not available” notification. If the camera worked prior to the installation of a certain app, try uninstalling that app and then restarting the phone.
The camera app data can be corrupted without use of a 3rd party app. To fix this, simply clear the data by going to Settings > Apps > All > Camera > clear everything (data/cache). After the camera data and cache are cleared, restart the phone and see if the camera works.
It is possible that certain permissions were incorrectly enabled/disabled for camera use. To reset these permissions go to Settings, then Apps, then click the settings wheel at the top and clear all permissions for the camera. Restart the phone and check the camera function.
The camera may be malfunctioning due to a bug in the phone’s software. If this is the case, check for a software update which may include a bug fix for the error. Download and install the update to fix.
