Device has poor battery life or does not respond to an attempted boot up.

The device may be experiencing a low battery life for multiple reasons, it may not be a physical issue. Certain programs could rapidly drain the battery, as well as playing media such as movies or videos. This is common for most laptops, ensure that the device is plugged in whenever possible. However if battery life is excessively short(less than 30 minutes), then a battery replacement is in order.

If you wish to remove or replace your device’s battery, see the guide below:

‘‘‘Sony Vaio SVS151190X Battery Replacement’’’

If your device’s battery does not appear to be damaged or worn there may be a hardware issue with your device. It may need a screen replacement if the screen remains blank, but the indicator lights still function during boot-up.

Here is a guide to a similar device if needed: ‘‘‘Sony Vaio PCG-7A2L LCD Screen Replacement’’’

If no indicator lights come on during an attempted boot, there may be a more serious hardware issue. Consult an expert if needed.

Device cannot store more data.

The easiest option to remedy this is an external storage drive, many are available online or in stores.

Using Windows built-in “Disk Cleanup” program, remove any unnecessary files and data saved by Windows in order to free up storage space.

If you need more storage space after cleaning the hard drive, try moving the data off of the laptop in order to replace it with a larger hard drive, here is a guide for this device:

Device will not connect to Wireless Internet.

Check that the modem is functioning and all your credentials are correct.

If problems persist, try replacing the Wi-Fi card, linked below is a guide for this device:‘‘‘Sony Vaio SVS151190X Wifi Card Replacement’’’

If you’re still having problems, try restoring your laptop through one of the several recover options provided by Windows support:

Windows 10 Recovery options

Device takes a long time to load programs, web pages, etc.

Open the laptop settings and make sure the laptop is up to date with the newest performance software. Along with the software, check if the browsers are up to date. Every browser is different but most will either automatically update or inform you if an update is required.

Open the laptop settings and go to the storage tab. The storage tab will say how much storage is being used. If the storage is nearly full or completely full, that may be the reason why the laptop is taking a long time to load. If this is the case, try to empty out the storage as much as possible, only leaving things that are needed. Another alternative is to move your data off your device into a cloud service or onto an external disk drive.

If problems persist, consider installing a larger/faster RAM memory stick( DDR3L specifically for laptops). Here is a guide on how to replace the RAM for this device:

‘‘‘Sony Vaio SVS151190X RAM Replacement’’’

Device will not accept disks or does not properly read them.

The disk reader may have trouble reading disks if there is debris on the disk or in the disk reader. To clean a disk, simply wipe clean with a lens cloth or a soft, clean shirt. Clean the disk reader with a can of compressed air. This should get rid of any debris inside the disk reader.

The disk reader may need to be replaced if the problems persist after cleaning. If this happens, try replacing the disk reader. Here is a guide for this device:

Device is getting really hot, or more so than usual.

The laptop may be overheating because of the surface it is operating on. If it is on a surface that has very little ventilation, then the laptop may overheat. A fan pad is the best surface to work on. It helps the laptop ventilate by providing a breathable surface.

An alternative solution is to clean the laptop’s internal fan. Sometimes debris can build up inside the fan or in between its blades, which makes it less efficient. Cleaning is simple and can be done with a can of compressed air, or by opening up the device and manually cleaning out debris.

If overheating continues there may be time to replace the fan, consult the video below.
