Internet Connection Issues
The computer will not connect to the internet using Wi-Fi.
Wireless Router Issues
Check to see if other devices are connected to the same network. If not, then the router may be the issue. Check your wireless router or cable modem for connection problems.
Wi-Fi Connection Issues
If other devices are connected to the network, check to make sure the wireless switch is ON. Also, check to make sure the wireless option in VAIO Smart Network software is ON. Lastly, try reinstalling the wireless drivers on the device. If the connection issue persists, the Wi-Fi card may be to blame.
Audio Issues
The audio is very quiet or non-existent
Little or No Audio
Check to make sure the volume is not turned down or muted. If the volume is unmuted and there is still no audio, open the “Playback settings” and make sure the speakers are set as the default device.
Distorted Audio
If the volume sounds distorted or there is static, plug in headphones and check the audio again. If the headphones sound normal, it may be an indication of a faulty speaker(s). Consider replacing the speaker(s).
The Device Will Not Power On
Faulty Battery
Plug the power adaptor into the device and verify that the charging light on the adaptor is on. If so, and the device is still not powering on, check our [battery removal guide] and consider replacing it.
Loose Charging Port
If the power adaptor is plugged in and lit up, but the charge light on the device isn’t turning on, then the charging port on the computer could be loose or damaged. check out our [DC Jack Replacement Guide].
Faulty Power Adaptor
If the power adaptor is plugged in, but the light on it is off, then the power adaptor could be faulty. Consider purchasing a new power adaptor.
Computer Not Booting Correctly
Computer turns on, but Windows doesn’t finish loading
Make sure all unnecessary peripheral devices (i.e. webcams, USB flash drives, printers, etc.) are disconnected and restart the device in Safe Mode.
Boot into Safe Mode
Turn computer off.
When the computer is completely off, press and hold the assist button.
Highlight the “recover or maintain your system [F10]” option, and press enter.
Select your keyboard layout, US is the recommended layout.
At the Choose an option screen, click the Troubleshoot option.
At the Troubleshoot screen, click Advanced options.
In the Advanced options screen, click Command Prompt.
In the Command Prompt window, type “bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy” and then press the Enter key.
Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Command Prompt window.
At the Choose an option screen, click the Turn off your PC option.
Press the F8 key repeatedly while pressing the Power button to turn the computer on.
On the Windows Start Menu, select Safe Mode.
Perform a System Recover
- Point to (but do not click)the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and
then click to select the Search charm.
In the Search screen, in the Search field type System Protection, and then click the Create a restore point icon.
In the System Properties window, click the Create button.
At the Create a restore point prompt, type a description to help identify the restore point,
and then click the Create button.

Computer turns on, but screen does not turn on
