Sony Vaio PCG-161L wont turn on when power button is pressed.

Make sure the charger is plugged in properly and the charging light is on. If the charging light does not turn on when the charger is plugged in, the power adaptor is broken and needs to be replaced.

If the computer will only turn on when it is connected to a power supply, then the battery can no longer hold a charge and needs to be replaced.

Make sure the battery is locked in properly. Both switches on the back of the case should be in the lock position.

When you turn your computer on, it runs a Power On Self Test (POST). If it cannot test a component because it is seated loosely, it will will not power on. Unplug all hardware connected to the computer, open the computer and reconnect all hardware to ensure a tight connection and try to power on the device again.

Keyboard/ keys wont respond when pressed.

If the entire keypad stops responding the keyboard may be disconnected from the Motherboard. Make sure the ribbon cable linking the keyboard to the motherboard is properly connected by removing the keyboard and locking the ribbon wire to the harness on the motherboard.

If a key is stuck in place there may be something underneath it not allowing it to move. Remove the key from the keyboard and clean the bottom of it as well as the area it sits in. Then put the key back in place by pressing down on the key until it ‘clicks’ into place.

If a key will no longer ‘click’ back into place the mechanism that holds it into place may be broken. Inspect the back of the key to see if it has snapped- if it is broken consider replacing the key.
